German-Russian Translation Workshop

The Workshop is organized by the Festival Directorate, the Department of Translation Theory and Intercultural Communication of VSU and internet project NEW RUSSIAN CULTURE IN TRANSLATION.

Students and teachers, scientists and translators from Russia and Germany will discuss actual issues of translation, translation of the works of Andrey Platonov, will watch a special movie for translators and will have an opportunity to take part in the unique master classes. The project will draw the attention of translators and literary community to the phenomenon of Platonov.

The discussions will be attended by well-known translators and literary critics: the publisher of the Platonov’s multi-volume collected works in German Lola Debüser, the literary critic, head of the Platonov group in the Institute of World Literature Natalia Kornienko, the director of the St. Petersburg School of Conference Interpreting and Translation (THE HERZEN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF RUSSIA), Professor Irina Alekseeva, Professor of Slavic Studies of the University of Bielefeld (Germany), Hans Gunter, Professor of Moscow State University, the author of translations of German philosophers Sergey Romashko, the head of the Russian translation department at the Institute of the Universityof Heidelberg, Professor Jekaterina Lebedeva, and others.

The event will take place on 13 and 14 June. The participants of the Workshop will have an opportunity to visit exhibitions, theatre and musical events of the Festival.
