Musical meeting which is impossible to forget

Founded in 1996, String Quartet Casal is the most successful and famous chamber ensemble in Switzerland and one of the leading quartets of the world, whose repertoire covers the time period from the music of the 17th century to the present day.

More than 1,200 concerts, the prize for best cultural project in 2011 from Zurich, winning international competitions show the exceptional skill of casalQuartett. Album «Birth of the String Quartet» recorded in 2010 won the most prestigious German musical award «ECHO» and the French critics' award «Diapason». In 2011 the quartet was the first in Switzerland who performed a unique work of Stockhausen - Helicopter String Quartet.

Among the partners of the Swiss ensemble on the world scenes are Martha Argerich, Nicholas Znaider, Giora Feydman, Sol Gabetta, Maurice Steger, Oliver Schneider and others. CasalQuartett take part in such well-known festivals as the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Beethovenfest Bonn, Styriarte, Rheingau Festival, Springfestival in Budapest and others. Quartet concerts were held in Philharmonie Luxembourg and Philharmonie Essen, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle in Zurich, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Amsterdam Muziekgebouw, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and many others.

Three of the quartet members are the directors of their own music festivals in Europe (Boswiler Sommer, Festival Arosa, Festival der Stille in Kaiserstuhl).

 

Kira Kraftzoff, cello (Russia/Germany) 

Kraftzoff studied at St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after Rimsky-Korsakow, which he graduated with honors in 1994. As a partaker of a student exchange program he came to Stuttgart, completing his studies with Prof. Peter Buck and graduating as a student laureate. In 1997 Kira won the First prize in «Vienna International Competition». 

Kraftzoff performed as a soloist in many of the great concert halls. He was invited to perform in numerous festivals all over the world, working with such famous artists as Gidon Kremer, Gilles Apap, Giora Feidman and Justus Frantz. 

Kraftzoff appeared in countless radio and television broadcasts and recorded 3 CDs.  As a teacher, he was invited to conduct master courses in Germany, Greece, France, Macedonia and Korea.

From 1998 until 2005 he was the principal Cellist of the «Wurttembergisches Kammerorchester» (Germany). In 2002 he founded a unique professional ensemble of cellists - Rastrelli Cello Quartet.
