June 16 – the eleventh day of the festival

In the afternoon a press conference dedicated to The Old Man and the Sea performance was held at the House of Journalists. The director, an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Anatoli Vasilyev, a People’s Artist of the RSFSR Alla Demidova and the managing director of the Supporting Fund of Chekhov International Theatre Festival Karina Tsaturova shared their feeling about the festival and the Platonov Award ceremony.

Another press conference was dedicated to the concert given by the Moscow Soloists chamber ensemble. Journalists talked to the ensemble’s artistic director, conductor and soloist Yuri Bashmet.  

At noon the programme Spacious Universe started at the Platonov monument. Actors from the Nikitin Theatre showed a sketch of Andrei Platonov. Letters. The City Central Library named after Andrei Platonov presented a literary and theatre programme Andrei Platonov. Dialogue with the World. After that, students of Platonov Gymnasium performed a literary and musical piece Must Live Again. Voronezh poets and writers read poems and prose.

A meet-the-artist event with a theatre director and one of this year’s Platonov Award winners Anatoli Vasilyevtook place on the small stage of the Koltsov Drama Theatre.

Another meet-the-artist event, this time with a writer Guzel Yakhina took was held at the festival art centre Governor’s House. She presented her new novel Children of Mine.

In the evening the chamber ensemble Moscow Soloists performed at the Philharmonic Hall. The Opera and Ballet Theatre hosted the premiere Autobiography by the British choreographer Wayne McGregor.  On the small stage of the Chamber Theatre spectators could see The Headwinds by the Italian company Is Mascareddas, for the first time ever staged in Russia.

The upper lobby of Voronezh Concert Hall hosted a meet-the-artist event with a composer Vladimir Martynov and a presentation of his book Silence As If for Half an Hour. Letters from Nefeli. Vladimir Martynov also wrote music for The Old Man and the Seashowed at the Voronezh Concert Hall after the event.

One of the most beautiful venues in the Voronezh neighborhood, the Ramon Castle park, hosted the third festival open air eventwith performances by an Austrian band DelaDap and musician Anton Makarov.
