This year there are a lot of novelties in the music program. The Voronezh Festival Symphony Orchestra is created for the first time in eight years and will take part in two concerts. There will be a new platform for open-air concerts – the Dam of the Chernavskiy bridge. The festival will once again present the art of Opera and creative evening of the composer in its program, as well as unusual concert programs with participation of the world stars.
On June 7th, the Green Theatre of Central Park will host The Israel Chamber Orchestra led by its artistic director, one of the most sought-after conductors of the new generation Ariel Zuckerman. The soloist of the concert is the Austrian violinist, the regular participant of the Salzburg festival - Benjamin Schmid. The musicians will present compositions of Maurice Ravel, Henri Vieuxtemps and Darius Milhaud.
The concert of the outstanding German cellist, who is a winner of a numerous prestigious awards - Julian Steckel and the Voronezh Academic Symphonic Orchestra under Vladimir Verbitsky direction will take place at the Philharmonic Hall on June 8th. The program will present compositions of Henri Dutilleux, Gabriel Faure and Maurice Ravel.

The Platonov Festival continues to present the art of Opera as a part of its music program. In past years concerts with participation of Opera singers from USA and CIS have had great success among the audience. On June 9th, there will be a concert of “The World’s Opera Stars” with the participation of one of the most famous tenors of the world Mark Heller (USA) and young star – Christina Poulitsi (Greece), as well as the Voronezh Festival Symphonic Orchestra under Yuri Androsov and Andrey Ogievskiy direction. The audience will hear the arias and duets of the world’s opera classics.
One of the most celebrated and influential Chamber groups of the World – American Kronos Quartet will perform for the first time in Voronezh and at the Platonov Festival. It was founded over 40 years ago, the Quartet has performed over thousand concerts all over the world, released over 60 records of the extraordinary breadth and creativity, cooperated with the leading composers and performers of the world and has introduced over 900 works and arrangements for string quartet to the repertoire. The Quartet has recorded music for many films, including well-known "Requiem for a Dream" and "The Fountain" by Darren Aronofsky. Kronos Quartet has received over 40 awards, including both the Polar Music and Avery Fisher Prize, several Grammy Awards. Kronos Quartet will perform the various program at the Voronezh Concert Hall including compositions of George Gershwin, Terry Riley, Alexandra Vrebalov, Pete Townshend from “The Who” and other musicians.

There will be the concert of the famous Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud and Voronezh Festival Symphonic Orchestra under Yuri Androsov direction on June 12th at the Philharmonic Hall. The musicians will play compositions of Karl Nielsen and Arnold Schoenberg.
On June 13th there will be the author’s evening with the composer Leonid Desyatnikov at the Philharmonic Hall. Apart from the author, the concert will be attended by the pianist Alexei Goribol, the violinist Alexander Trostyanskiy, the soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theatre. The program is comprehensive and interesting, it will also present the Russian premiere - 12 Preludes for Piano from the “Bukovinian Songs”.
The joint chamber concert of the outstanding pianist Itamar Golan (France/Israel) and the famous violinist Ilya Gringolts (Switzerland) will take place at the Philharmonic Hall on June 14th. Two of the most popular musicians of their time will play compositions of Robert Schumann, Leos Janacek and George Enescu.
The star of the word piano art David Fray will perform with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Voronezh Concert Philharmonic Hall on June 15th. The French pianist has become the world known for the insightful performances of the Bach compositions. Besides the Bach’s Concerto No.1 there will be also presented the concert of Maurice Ravel in Voronezh.
The Camerata of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performed its first Russian concert at the Platonov Arts Festival in 2016. This year one of the most vivid participants of our music program is coming back with the new repertoire. On June 16th the Camerata of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will perform the music of Jorg Widmann, Maurice Ravel and Gustav Maler under the conducting of Alexey Ogrinchuk at the Philharmonic Hall.
This year the festival has a new music venue. There will be an open-air show with American indie-folk band Tall Heights on the Dam of the Chernavskiy bridge in the Festival Night. The team has a progressive sound, beautiful arrangements and harmony, and the vocal of its participants is characterized by the mastery of working with high notes. The musicians have 5 Studio albums (the most famous single Spirit Gold released in 2015), tours throughout America and participation in music festivals at the level of Dutch Best Kept Secret Festival. This concert will be the first performance of Tall Heights in Russia. The expected format is going to be a romantic party on the beach under the starry sky.
Also, there will be concerts at the chalk quarry White Well (June 10th) and Ramon Castle Park (June 16th) at the Platonov festival. The program of these events we will announce later.
In general, except the bands that will perform in Ramon and in White Well, the festival will be attended by musicians from 10 countries: Austria, Germany, Greece, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, the USA, France and Switzerland.
There will be 12 concerts in total, 4 of them will be held outdoors: on the Dam of the Chernavskiy bridge, in the Green Theater of the Central Park, in the chalk quarry White Well and in the Park of the Ramon castle.
