Rimas Tuminas is the Artistic Director of the State Vakhtangov Theatre (since 2007). Recipient of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, recipient of the National prize of Lithuania, Russian Festival of Performing Arts “Golden Mask” winner, International Stanislavsky Theatre Award winner and many other awards.
Graduated from the directing course of the GITIS Academy. His first performance was Yordan Radichkov’s “January” staged at the Drama Theatre of Lithuania (1978). The first performance launched in Moscow was Oswald Zagradnik’s “Peacock Melody” at the Stanislavsky Theatre (1979).
From 1979 to 1990, Rimas Tuminas worked as a director at the State Academic Theatre of Lithuania, since 1994 – as a chief director. In 1990 he founded the Little Theatre of Vilnius, which he still directs.
Rimas Tuminas has often staged productions abroad, including Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. His constant partners are an artist Adomas Jacovskis and a composer Faustas Latenas.
