Platonov Festival 2015 Theatre Program

Four Russian premieres, a new genre in the festival palette -"contemporary circus", four performances based on Platonov works and CIS projects! Yesterday at a press-conference the Artistic Director of the festival Mikhail Bychkov announced the theatre program of the 5th International Platonov Arts Festival.

For five years, one of the main creative partners of Platonov Festival has been Chekhov International Theatre Festival. Two international productions will be shown in Voronezh this time in collaboration with this major Russian theatre festival.

"Forget me not" by Compagnie Philippe Genty in artistic association with MCNN (Choreographic Director – Mary Underwood).

Voronezh citizens are already familiar with one legendary French puppeteer’s work: in 2011 at the first Platonov Festival Philippe Genty’s "Still travelers" was shown twice and had tremendous success.

"Forget me not" is one of the most beautiful Genty’s performances. It was created in 1992 and shown all over the world. In 2012 Genty and Underwood produced a new version of the original play in collaboration with the Norwegian actors. It is a unique opportunity for Platonov Festival’s audience to enjoy the new work of a great master.

The second performance which will be shown in Voronezh in collaboration with Chekhov International Theatre Festival is "Rice" ballet by Taiwan Cloud Gate Dance Theatre (choreographer – LIN HWAI-MIN).

Another discovery of the festival, show "Smashed" created by the Gandini Juggling company represents a new direction in the program of the forum – "contemporary circus". The founder and artistic director of the theatre is the world-known juggler, one of the best masters of this art form in the world, Sean Gandini. "Smashed" is a funny and witty performance, perfectly suitable for family viewing.

International Platonov Arts Festival continues the cooperation with the Embassy of Israel in Russia, so Voronezh will see the contemporary Israeli ballet again. In 2013 Voronezh audience enjoyed the dance performance by Batsheva Dance Company "Deca Dance", last year – "Oyster"  by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak Dance Company.

The equally bright and interesting Israeli company – Vertigo Dance Company – will attend the fifth Platonov Arts Festival. Founded by Adi Sha’al and Noa Wertheim in 1992 it is almost unknown in Russia because has never come to our country on tour. Ballet "Vertigo 20" which is comprised of pieces from several dance performances for the last 20 years will be shown to the Russian audience for the first time at Platonov Festival 2015.

One of the projects connected with the status "Voronezh – the cultural capital of the CIS in 2015 year" is the Uzbekistan Ilkhom theatre’s "Seven Moons" by Alisher Navoiy, a 15th century great Turkic poet. Ilkhom is a leading theatre in Central Asia; the troupe has toured practically the whole world.
