Meetings and lectures of the well-known Russian literary figures within Platonov Festival literature program


6 June, Friday

Evgeniy Vodolazkin: «Literature Making a Comeback? Modern Literature in the Eyes of an Expert in the Old Russian Literature». 

In his talk Evgeniy Vodolazkin, a philologist and expert in the Old Russian literature, the author of the novels «Laurus», «Solovyov and Larionov», the book of essays «The Instrument of Language» and other works, will share his view of the contemporary literature.

Round-Table Meeting «Geography of Reading: Provincial Reader and Metropolitan Publisher»

Alla Bezrukova, a leading research associate of the State Literary Museum, the chief editor of the publishing house «Sovpadenie», will chair the round-table discussion with participation of the major publishing houses’ representatives. 

Discussion topics:

- the reader: is (s)he a real or hypothetical figure for the publisher?

- the reader’s demand and the publisher’s portfolio;

- regional publishing: publishing policy peculiarities;

- bookshops: the publisher versus the reader;

- library as a publishing centre: a union of the publisher and the reader?

- museum and the reader: in search of effective publishing solutions.

Denis Dragunsky: «Novella and Fable. Story about a Story»

Denis Dragunsky is a philologist, political expert, writer, playwright and chief editor of «Kosmopolis» magazine. His book of short stories «There’s no Such a Word» was shortlisted for «Prose of the Year» award in the «Book of the Year» contest in 2009.

The well-known author of short stories shares the tricks of the trade.

Yuri Nechiporenko: «The Worlds of Adults and Children. Childhood as a Key to a Man»

Teenagers (aged 10 and above) together with their parents and teachers are invited to a presentation of the book «To Laugh and to Whistle» by Yuri Nechiporenko, a prose writer,   art-critic, artist and culture expert.

Natalia Kornienko: «Andrey Platonov in 2014»

1:00 p.m. at Voronezh Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.S. Nikitin

Natalia Kornienko is a scholarly expert in the History of XX Century Russian Literature, Textology and Source Studies, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, author of over 400 academic papers and one of the most prominent authorities on Andrey Platonov’s works. 


Elena Shubina and Vladimir Sharov: lecture on modern publishing and presentation of the novel «Return to Egypt»

The novel «Return to Egypt», written by Vladimir Sharov in 2013, is a story in letters of a family related to… Nikolay Vasilyevich Gogol.

Grigory Kruzhkov: translation theory, absurdist poetry

Grigory Kruzhkov is a poet, essay writer, critic, translator, author of «The Book of NONsense. English Absurdist Poetry in Grigory Kruzhkov’s Translation». Among his numerous translations are the selections of Wyatt, Donne, Keats, Tennyson, Yeats, Joyce, Frost and others. His awards include the State Prize of the Russian Federation, the Bunin Prize, several national prizes for children’s literature and an honorary diploma from the International Board on Books for the Young Readers.
