The short-list has been formed by the Platonov Award Council, whose members – representatives of different spheres in art and culture chaired by the Governor of the Voronezh region Alexey Gordeev proposed their candidates for the Award. In total 16 candidates have been discussed and finally after discussion 5 names have been left in the list – each nominee stands for different type of art – there is the playwright, the director, the writer, the artist and musician. Traditionally their names are not announced.
Platonov Award Council members will have 3 months for detailed acquaintance with biographies and works of all 5 nominees for the Award and at the next meeting planned for April the Council will finally choose the new laureate of the Platonov Award. The award ceremony itself traditionally is held during International Platonov Arts Festival period.
Platonov Award in Literature and Art was established in 2011 by the Government of the Voronezh region. It is awarded annually to Russian or foreign writers and artists for thier significant contribution to the cultural heritage of Russia, for the creation of outstanding works in literature, theater, music, visual arts and the innovative development of humanistic cultural traditions.
In 2011, Platonov Award was given to Russian writer and publicist Boris Ekimov, in 2012 – to the artistic director of the Maly Drama Theatre - Theatre of Europe, the People's Artist of Russia Lev Dodin. Last year laureate was People's Artist of Russia Mikhail Pletnev - the pianist, composer and conductor.
